In 2010 there are many poker games available that weren't around a few years back. Online poker has grown considerably in both traffic and game variety. More and more players are making the switch from NL Hold'em to games like Stud. Mixed poker variants in particular have become very popular. In 2009 the two major online poker rooms (Pokerstars & Full Tilt Poker) each developed several new mixed games. Full Tilt also developed a totally new way to play online poker: Rush Poker. Poker rooms have realized that in order to stay competitive they need come up with new exciting games. Poker players want diversity in 2010. It is hard to believe but some of the major networks still only offer Hold'em and Omaha. This has been a major factor in the huge growth seen at Pokerstars. It used to be a big deal when Pokerstars peaked at over 100,000 players. Nowadays they reach 250,000-300,000 daily.
The poker listed below are in order of popularity. I'm only looking at the major rooms but it should give you a solid understanding of what the card game scene looks like in 2010. I'm fairly confident that these stats will look totally different in 2010.

There used to be a time when Hold'em account for well over 90% of all online poker traffic. 7 Card Stud's 1% may not seem like much at all but you have to look at the overall volume of the industry today. That 1% equals out to enough traffic to fill 25-50 real money tables. This is enough to allow virtually any player (small, medium or high stakes) to site down at 2-3 active tables at any given time.
As I mentioned Rush Poker has really changed things at Full Tilt Poker, the 2nd largest poker room. This game is only available at Full Tilt so I didn't include it in the list above. If I had it would equate to about 20% of the traffic at Full Tilt. That is roughly about the same as the 13 other non-Hold'em games they offer. It simply amazes me that this one game now accounts for 1 out of 5 players at Full Tilt, and it happened in less than a year. Rush Poker is not a new unique card game, it is a new way to play existing games. The average number of hands/hour at a normal Hold'em table is around 80 hands/hour. In Rush Poker the average stands at around 250 hands/hour. You have the ability to fold without waiting for the action to come to you. When you fold you are automatically transferred to another table with new players and you will receive a new hand.
H.O.R.S.E poker was the #1 mixed poker game since before I was born. As of the first quarter of 2009 that was no longer true. The heavy hitters in the mixed game arena are 8-Game Mix and 7-Game Mix. Online poker players seem to prefer their mixed poker games to be very complex. This obviously means they will be more profitable in the end. These two mixed games are the same with the exception of 2-7 Triple Draw, only because Full Tilt doesn't offer it. Both are "mixed limit" games, meaning they include fixed, pot and no limit card games in their line-ups.
It's never to late to get into online poker. U.S. players used to have a heck of a time finding an online poker room that they could make a deposit at. Things are thankfully much easier these days. Anyone with a checking account or credit card can easily make a secure deposit at either Pokerstars or Full Tilt. The incentives for playing for real money have never been better. Both rooms offer a huge deposit bonus, massive freerolls and award winning VIP programs. Even if you just want to play for fun you can still take advantage of the freerolls and possibly win hundreds of thousands of dollars.
